Obituary

Bruce Albert Alderson, 75, of Rehoboth, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol Ann (Sobota) Alderson with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this August, and spent over 58 years of life together overall.

He was born in Attleboro; son of the late Oliver and Barbara (Baker) Alderson. Bruce grew up in Mansfield, moving to Attleboro as a teen, he graduated from Attleboro High School before embarking on a career as a marine technical illustrator, starting with Derecktor Shipyard. His work reflected his deep passion for design and craftsmanship, particularly in the realm of boats. A talented and independent artist, Bruce also enjoyed building intricate models that showcased his creativity and precision. He worked with the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, RI, the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., and the Yale Peabody Museum in New Haven, CT, on projects with sailing, flight, and paleontology respectively.

Bruce's love for the sea extended beyond his professional life; sailing was one of his greatest passions. He found immense joy navigating the waters and sharing his enthusiasm for the ocean with those around him. His other great love was music. For five years, Bruce sang in the Rehoboth Congregational Church, and later for a decade with Saint Cecilia's Church in Pawtucket.

A man of many talents, Bruce was also an accomplished woodworker who created beautiful walking sticks. His appreciation for history, particularly the Civil War and World War II, made him an expert on the subject and a captivating conversationalist for those who shared his interest.

Bruce served in Freemasonry as a past Lodge Master at Eastern Star in Rehoboth, and was also a Brother at the Mount Hope Lodge, where he formed lasting connections and contributed to the organization's service mission.

In addition to his wife, Bruce is survived by his son Jeffrey Alderson, and Jeffrey's wife Brittany of Norton; his beloved grandchildren, Travis and Hannah; his sister Cynthia Fitzgibbons; his brother Thomas Alderson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Brian Alderson.
