Carmen Maria Soto Vera, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025, with her loving granddaughter by her side. Born in Lares, Puerto Rico. Carmen was a God-fearing resilient woman who brought 9 children into the world and raised them on her own. She entered the working world when she was younger and learned to become a seamstress, she earned a University of Puerto Rico diploma one of her favorite skill she enjoyed using to make clothing for herself and her family. Carmen also enjoyed cooking and feeding anyone who was around, going flower picking with her granddaughter especially for roses which were her favorite. One of her greatest accomplishments was being named Grandma of Providence by the State Senator and Mayor of Providence and assisting her granddaughter with their non-profit West End Community Revival Association Corporation. She always told me to treat others better we never know what's happening in their life.

She is survived by her children, Enrique Ortiz, Esteban Ortiz Soto, Maria Milargo Ortiz, Karina Rodriguez grandchildren: Rosa and Calvin Ortiz Godbolt, Adrianna and Ramon Correa, Juan Adrian Vicente and Miguel Vicente, Amparito Gonzales, Joel Gonzales, Tata Gonzales, Raulito Gonzales, Issac, Carlos, Karla, Angelica Ortiz, Sarita, Eva Sulayka, Isabel and great granddaughter Eva Karina Guzman,
Jermaya Ortiz Godbolt, Sophia Correra, Lilo, Gigi, Samira Guzman,Jordy amongs many others she raised.
She was also the mother of the late Jose Raul Gonzales, Junior Ortiz Carmen Eva Ortiz, Carlos Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, Estrella Ortiz and grandchildren Henectito Gonzales and Junito Ortiz.

Calling hours for Carmen will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 10AM-12PM at the Foley Cook New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 126 South Main St., Attleboro, MA with a funeral service immediately following at 12PM. Burial to follow at North Burial Grounds in Providence.
