Charlene A. Fisk, 71, of Cumberland, Rhode Island passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. She was born in Attleboro; daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Perry) Fisk.
She grew up and was educated in Seekonk, Charlene pursued higher education at Jackson State University, laying the foundation for a remarkable career dedicated to public safety and communications.
Charlene began her professional journey as a 911 Dispatcher for the Town of Seekonk Police Department, serving from July 1996 to September 2006. Her dedication and expertise led her to the role of Director of Communications for Norton Public Safety from September 2006 to August 2018. In August 2018, she transitioned to become the Information and Technology Coordinator for the Town of Norton, a position she held with distinction until her passing.
A trailblazer in her field, Charlene was a Life and Senior Member of APCO International (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials). She joined APCO in March 2000 and earned both Life Member and Senior Member status through her unwavering commitment to advancing public safety communications. Charlene served as Atlantic Chapter Executive Council Representative, East Coast Regional Representative, Group Leader, committee leader, and an Atlantic APCO Chapter Officer. From 2020 to 2022, she sat on the board of directors. Her professional achievements included earning RPL (Registered Public-Safety Leader) and CPE (Certified Public-Safety Executive) certifications as part of CPE Class 4.
Throughout her career, Charlene contributed significantly to numerous APCO committees such as the Member & Chapter Services Committee, Professional Development Events Committee, Finance and Budget Committee, Project 43 Working Groups, Bylaws Committee, and many others. Colleagues fondly remembered her as a friend, mentor, and dedicated professional whose impact on the field will be felt for years to come.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Charlene found immense joy in spending time with her family. In her leisure time, Charlene enjoyed gardening, crocheting intricate creations by hand, and traveling by train to explore various destinations.
She is survived by her siblings: James Fisk and his wife Sharon; Mitchel Fisk and his wife Erica, Cathlene (Fisk) George and her husband Al, Edward Fisk and his wife Colleen, and Lisa (Fisk) Dean. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Charlene was predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law James Dean.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 4-7pm at Foley-Cook New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 126 South Main Street in Attleboro, MA 02703. Burial will be private.
