Clinton A.
Sowle
December 18, 2025
NEW BEDFORD-Clinton A Sowle, 82, of New Bedford, died peacefully surrounded by his children on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Clinton A Sowle and Margaret (Weeks) Sowle. Clint fought bravely with perseverance during the last year of his life when his health was declining.
Clinton (aka: Butch or Clint) started his career from the bottom at the New England Telephone Company and worked his way up to telephone technician. He was known for his dedicated work ethic and his technical knowledge. He was referred to as the "Go to Man" and did just about any task that needed to be done. He continued his career when New England Telephone Company became MaBell, then AT&T, and then Lucient Technologies. While working for Lucient Technologies, he held a prestigious position as the "Fix It Man" at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, MA.
Upon his retirement in 2004, Clint volunteered as a docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and he was a tour guide at the New Bedford Glass Museum. He had many interests and was an avid collector of stamps, coins, comic books, and Pairpoint glassware. He loved going to yard sales and antique businesses and enjoyed a good bargain.
Clint's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. He liked sharing a good meal together and talking sports about his favorite teams: the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. A trip to the casino was always a favorite day for him. Those of you who knew him, knew how much he adored his cats. We fondly remember when he and his dear friend, Elaine, had to bottle feed the stray kittens.
Clint knew his Savior and loved attending Friday night chapel at Teen Challenge in Brockton when Jamie Casey preached. He loved to hear a good sermon or a young man's testimony.
He is survived by his two children, Valarie J. Lacasse of Fairhaven and Clinton H. Sowle of New Bedford, his grandchildren, Alie Lacasse of Fall River and Katie Ponte (Kenneth) of New Bedford. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3, 2026, Saturday, at the Christian Fellowship Center, 822 Church St, in New Bedford. Visitation will begin at 10 am to 11 am with the service following at 11 to 12 noon then at noon a luncheon will be served. Arrangements are under the direction of the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St in New Bedford. For memorial register, please visit www.newdayfunerals.com.
