NEW BEDFORD- David Grew, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024 surrounded by his family.

David was the son of the late James William and Esther (Grundy) Grew. He grew up in New Bedford and graduated from Dartmouth High School. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was stationed on the West Coast and in the Philippines during the Vietnam War.

He loved boats and sailing. David enjoyed weekend trips to Cuttyhunk Island and Martha's Vineyard with all of his children. He loved helping people; and this showed when he was affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous. David helped many individuals who were struggling with substance abuse. Sundays were put aside for football, as David was an avid fan of the New England Patriots.

David's memory will be kept alive by his children David Grew Jr of Dartmouth, Daniel Grew and his wife Kara of Somerset, and Rachel Alves and her husband Jaime of New Bedford; and his grandchildren Savannah Grew, Quinn Enos, Kelsie Alves, Samuel Grew, Jacob Grew, and Anastasia Grew. He was predeceased by his sister Shirley Rose.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 4-7pm in the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St, New Bedford. His funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 10am in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 351 Elm St, South Dartmouth. Cremation will follow.
