Obituary

Debra "Debbi" Sue Nickerson, 66, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024.

Debbi, was born in Ypsilanti, MI on March 4,1957, the daughter of Charles W. Smith and Virginia May (Ford) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Glenn Carbaugh, her brother, William D. Smith, and sister, Carolyn R. Smith.

She graduated from Ypsilanti High School and studied at Western Michigan University. Debbi went on to serve her country honorably in the US Navy for many years where she was stationed throughout the country. Debbi enjoyed scrapbooking and was devoted to her card ministry that blessed many of her friends and extended family.

She was devoted to her church, Christian Fellowship Center, and two of their Bible studies. Especially the Monday night GLOW group (GOD​LOVES OLDER WOMEN) that encouraged, supported and ministered to her in so many loving ways.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela E. M. Carbaugh and three grandchildren:Glenn Morales, Anjolique Santiago, and Ivelisse Santiago.  She also is survived by her sister, Nancy Capper (LeRoy); and three brothers:  Douglas Smith (Bonnie), Donald Smith (Julie), and John Smith (Debbie). Also, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received for a time of visitation, on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 10-11 am in the Donaghy New-Day Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford, MA.   A Memorial Service will follow at 11am, officiated by the Reverend LeRoy Capper.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make contributions to the Christian Fellowship Center in New Bedford, MA.
