Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Doris Marie Tanguay, nee Soares.

Born in New Bedford, MA, Doris attended local area-schools and graduated from Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth, MA, where she played on the basketball team. After graduation, Doris proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in several countries; she had her most fond memories in Spain and Germany.

A heart of servitude and desire to help others paved Doris’ way for a health care career after being honorably discharged from the Army. She successfully completed nursing school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Her dedication to the well-being of others was reflected in her compassionate service in several local hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Until her retirement, Doris was consistently noted among her peers and supervisors for the quality of care she gave to all of her patients. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, MA, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth, John, Edwin, and Michael as well as her beloved twin sister, Doreen.

She leaves surviving sisters: Betty, Anne Marie, Linda, Priscilla, and Bernadette; and brothers: Gary and Mark. Also surviving her are a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

A celebration of life ceremony for Doris, will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church on June 12, 2026 at 10:00 am.
