Dorothy A. (Carvalho) Newcomb, age 79, a resident of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Rehoboth, MA, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

She was born on June 17, 1945, in Cambridge, MA; the daughter of the late Joaquin and Evangelina (Toma) Carvalho. Dorothy grew up in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Dorothy furthered her education by attending Bentley University before seeking out a career in finance.

In 1975 she took a part-time position at Attleboro Savings Bank as a teller, with the government's creation of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA's) she was promoted to the position of Customer Service Representative. Shortly after that she was promoted to Assistant Treasurer in charge of the Retirement Accounts Department.

In 1976, while residing in Rehoboth, she was a member of the Rehoboth Bi-Centennial Committee. After the Supreme Court ruling in 1987, Dorothy was the first woman to become a member of the Attleboro Rotary Club.

She is survived by her former husband, Bruce E. Newcomb of Berkley, MA; her children Brook E. Newcomb of Taunton and Bethany A. Nye and her husband Louis Della Valle of Mansfield; her grandchildren Kendahl and Dylan Nye of Mansfield; her nephew Joseph Riley and his wife, Nancy of Arlington, MA, along with her lifelong friend and "adopted sister" Maryann Savilonis and her husband Robert of Florida. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Riley & her husband, John of Cambridge, MA.

Family and Friends are invited to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 5pm-7pm/ET with a Funeral Mass starting at 6:30pm at Foley-Cook New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 126 South Main St, Attleboro, MA. Burial will be private.
