NEW BEDFORD-Edith M. Tomascik, 71, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on July 16, 2024.

Edie was born in Acushnet and was the daughter of the late Leo Tomascik and Edith (Ryder) Tomascik.

Edie attended New Bedford Schools and was employed as a hostess at local restaurants for many years. She loved to play cards and was a great poker and pitch player. Edie was also a devoted New York Giants and Yankees fan. She enjoyed traveling when she could and was also a fabulous cook who was famous for her chicken wing recipes. Edie was happiest when when she was sitting in the sun with her sister Joanne and she will be remembered as someone who always went out of her way to help others.

She is survived by her children, Richard Preston and his wife Clarissa of Acushnet, Anthony Preston and his wife Eileen of Freetown and Tammy Ryan and her husband Russell of New Bedford; siblings, Ernest Tomascik and his wife Deborah of Fairhaven, Jacqueline Tomascik and Joanne Wilkinson of New Bedford, and Michelle Tomascik of Acushnet; grandchilren, Frank, Destiny, Faith and Ayden and great grandchildren, Collin and Camden and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Michael and Stephen Tomascik.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 8:30-10:30am in the Donaghy-New Day Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.

Prayers will be held at 10:15am

Burial to follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford
