NEW BEDFORD-Ernest "Ernie" Ellis, Sr., 83, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, Ernie was one of two children of his beloved parents Viola (Heap) Ellis and Leroy Ellis, he was a lifelong resident of the city.

He leaves behind his daughter Lynne Englehart and her partner John Anderson as well as his son, Troy Ellis both of New Bedford;  his sister, Edwina "Pinky" (Ellis) Krug of Moncks Corner, SC;  five grandchildren;  eight great grandchildren;  and news of being a great, great grandfather.  His family will miss him dearly.

His love for antiques geared his passion, whether an old car or a rusty piece of metal by the road, Ernie found treasure in nearly anything. Ernie was a dispatcher for cabs in his hometown and always had a way with words. Hot rods and car shows pathed his adventures.

He was predeceased by his children, Erlene Ellis and Ernest Ellis, Jr.
