Obituary

George A. Davis, Jr., 79, of East Freetown passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday, September 4, 2021.& He was the husband of the late Phyllis L. (Jacobsen) Davis.


Born in Boston, son of the late George A. Sr. and Elizabeth E. (Eichel) Davis, he moved to Dallas, TX and returned to Boston and then Natick where he graduated from Natick High school in 1961. George settled in East Freetown 45 years ago. He attended Boston University and graduated from Northeastern University and served in the Navy in the 1960's and later was a financial analyst at Polaroid for many years.


George was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Bedford. He was a Mason, avid gardener, enjoyed day trading on the stock market, loved British sports cars and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Carter.


He is survived by his daughter, Olivia J. Davis-Legrow and her husband Jason and their son Carter of Rehoboth; a sister, Sharon E. Hagspiel and her husband Francis R. of Naples, FL and their daughter Stephanie Newcomb; a sister in law, Mimi Clark of Hampton, NH and her sons, Andrew and Theodore Clark.


Mr. Davis will be cremated and memorial visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7pm in the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St., New Bedford. His funeral service will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10AM in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 169 Belleville Rd., New Bedford. Followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
