Martinez, Gladys Esther , age 78, passed away on October 6, 2025 after a period of declining health. She was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico on March 5, 1947 to the late Ines Torres and Gregorio Martinez.

Gladys graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus, and became a nurse. She retired after working at the Rio Piedras Medical Center in Puerto Rico.

A devoted mother and grandmother. A woman of faith who trusted God above all. She valued people and the relationships she made along the way, she was loving, caring and selfless.

Gladys found her greatest joy in family, everyday moments, always delighted by nature, especially a day at the beach and savoring her favorite seafood dishes.

Along with her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her brother, Edwin M. Martinez. She is survived by her brother Jorge L. Martinez; her sister Maria R. Irrizarry (Martinez); her three children Esteban Catala, Jr., Ines Catala, and Carlos Catala; thirteen grandchildren Frances, Christian, Nathan, Joshua, Jennifer, Jasper, Nicole, Marina, Sebastian, Charlette, Keyshla, Sophia, and Carlos; four great-grandchildren Christoffer, Matthew, Shinyuchan and Jaythian; two nieces Joan and Jessica; her nephew Luis; many cousins and extended family members who mourn her loss.

Gladys' remains will be laid to rest in Coamo, Puerto Rico beside her parents at a later date.
