Harley W. Smith, Jr., 99, formerly of New Bedford passed away at home Wednesday, February 9, 2022 after a period of declining health.& He was the husband of the late Frances L. (Rezendes) Smith.

Born in Galesburg, Illinois, son of the late Harley W. And Jessica (Deets) Smith, he lived in New Hampshire and the Boston area prior to New Bedford where he was a resident for 50 years. Mr. Smith had been in North Easton with his son for the past 20 years. A graduate of Quincy High School, Harley served in the U.S. Marine Corp First Division during WWII at the Guadalcanal. He would later work as a salesman in the meat processing industry and then for the Fairhaven School Department in the Lunch Program until his retirement.

Harley loved music and enjoyed singing in the choir of his local church. He also enjoyed dancing.

He is survived by his son, Harley W. Smith, III and his wife Sonia of North Easton; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gladys Broadwell.
