ATTLEBORO-Irene M. Hurst, 83, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Hurst, Jr.
Irene was born in Attleboro and was the daughter of the late John Baptiste Salvas and Flora (Farnsworth) Salvas.
Irene was employed for over 25 years at Augat Inc., and later Stern-Leach Co. for many years until her retirement. She loved to travel extensively with her family and was a woman who enjoyed spending time in nature. She made many wonderful memories with her family and the countless camping trips they took together. Irene was a happy and outgoing woman who was always the life of the party and never stopped moving. She was also a longtime member of the Order of the Moose (Women of the Moose) and a member of the Attleboro Elks Club (Ladies of the Red Hats). During retirement she volunteered at many local senior center events and enjoyed driving others to their appointments. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her children, Mary Peirce of Attleboro, Katherine Hurst and her partner Barbara of Malden and John Hurst and his wife Susan of Attleboro; grandchildren, Amanda Walters, Adam Peirce, Michael Knight, Jason Hurst and Katelyn Hurst; great grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin, Jayden, Jonathan, Zachary and Andrew and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Howard Salvas and Esther Hicks; also the grandmother of the late Rose Knight.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 4-7pm in the Foley-Cook New Day Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., Attleboro.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 10th with prayer services beginning at 10am in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery, Rumford, RI
