Obituary

ROCHESTER-James W. Sullivan, 86, of Rochester passed away at home, peacefully, after a period of declining health, Sunday, April 28, 2024.  He was the loving husband of 64 years to Louise C. (Mathieu) Sullivan.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Francis and Jeannette B. (LaChapelle) Sullivan.  Jim was a graduate of Cranwell Prep and Boston College and was a proprietor of Sullivan Brothers Clothing for over 30 years. Jim was a devout Catholic, an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Louise;  his children, Kathleen Shutts and her husband Jack of Chagrin Falls, OH, Shawn Sullivan and his wife Betty of Plymouth, Kevin Sullivan of Sugar Hill, NH, Betsy Downes and her husband Stephen, Karen Sylvia and her husband Larry, and Sue Sullivan, all of Rochester;  13 grandchildren, Sarah, Meredith, Billy, Joseph, Lauren, Tucker, Grace, Hannah, Evan, Emma, Kate, Adam and Caroline;  four great grandchildren, Emily, Jack, Rosemary and Lucy;  his five brothers, Francis Sullivan of Dartmouth, Robert Sullivan of Mansfield, Thomas Sullivan and his wife Dina of NC, Lawrence Sullivan and his wife Mary of Portsmouth, RI and David Sullivan of Coconut Grove, FL;  and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 11AM at St. Rita's Church, 121 Front St., Marion.  Interment will be private.  Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St., New Bedford.  For memorial register please visit, www.newdayfunerals.co
