Jeffrey G. Szala passed away peacefully&in the early afternoon of October 2, 2021 in St. Luke's hospital, New Bedford.He is survived by his sons, Matthew, Andrew & Daniel Szala, two grandchildren, Evan and Penelope and his brothers, Peter & Scott.

A consummate man of the sea, after serving in the Air Force, Jeff spent his life in the southern New England Maritime industry, as a commercial fisherman, merchant seaman,and shipwright. Duringhis longcareer, Jeff built and serviced all manner of watercraft from skiffs to steamships. His passion for the ocean carried over to his love of art, which he expressed through naval draftsmanship and watercolor. Above all, Jeff's thirst for knowledge could only be rivaled by his efforts to pass on all he knew, and his years of experience will live on in the scores of students he taught across the world.

His remains will be scattered off Westport, so he may return to the sea. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to the Seamen's ChurchInstitute-Newport in Jeff's name.
