Obituary

ACUSHNET-Lawrence "Jay" Weeks, 71, of Acushnet passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife Terry on Saturday, September 27, 2025.  He was the husband of 52 years to Terry (Reilly) Weeks.

Born in Acushnet, son of the late Lawrence and Oleivia (O'Hara) Weeks, he was a graduate of New Bedford High School where he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Junior ROTC and served in the U.S. Army, 82 Airborne, from Fort Bragg, NC during the Vietnam War.  He later was a Fire Fighter for 26 years for the City of New Bedford Fire Department at Stations #7 & 9.  Larry also worked at Sam Giammalvo's Auto Dealer in New Bedford.

Jay was a lover of animals and contributed to Roadside Wildlife Rehab, Inc. He loved his dog Sarah and his cats Reilly and Penny. He ate at the Courtyard in Fairhaven every morning where he was affectionately known as "Bad Larry".  He met with his retired Fire Fighter friends the "Bums on the Hill" and enjoyed having lunch with his wife at Ned's Point in Mattapoisett.  He had also coached Bay State Girls Softball years ago.

He is survived by his loving wife Terry;  his daughters, Kellie Anderson and her husband Mark of Franklin and Caitlyn Weeks of New Bedford;  four grandchildren, Norah and Colin Anderson and Brenna and Christian Santos;  two sisters, Alice C. Weeks of New Bedford and Michele Rodrigues and her husband Thomas of New Harbor, ME;  a niece, Kerran Ascoli and her husband Joseph of Cranston, RI and a nephew, Nathan Rodrigues of OH. Larry was predeceased by his mother in law, Patricia Reilly.

Calling hours are Sunday from 4-8PM in the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford.  His funeral will be Monday, October 6, 2025 at 9AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Lawrence Martyr Church, New Bedford.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.  For facility directions or memorial register please visit, www.newdayfunerals.com.
