Lea Charpentier died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 28, after facing a long illness with grace and strength.
She was born in New Bedford, MA, on February 10, 1951, to the late Raymond and Christine (Lemaire) Charpentier. A lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of New Bedford High School, Lea worked at Economy Blouse and was a pieceworker at Knapp Shoes for over 10 years. She was also the proud owner of Our Flower Shoppe.
She was an avid reader and writer who loved puzzles, collecting, crafting miniatures, lighthouses, working outdoors, cooking with her grandchildren, and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her son, Roger Woodis Jr.; her partner of 32 years, Mary Lou Alfonso; her siblings, George Charpentier, Christine (Charpentier) Comeau, Edward Charpentier, and Gerard Charpentier; and her friend, Mary Fortes.
She is survived by her daughter, Christie (Woodis) Adamides and her husband, Andrew Adamides Jr.; her grandchildren, Andrew Adamides and his partner, Andrew Carriere, and Katelyn Adamides and her wife, Maria Adamides; her great-grandchildren, Tiago Junior and Julian Andrew Adamides; her former husband, Roger Woodis Sr.; her godchildren, Michael Clapp and Wallace Woodis; her many nieces and nephews; and her friends of more than 30 years, Gina Farizo, and Kim and Clem Amaral and their children, Charissa, Brianna, and Nathaniel.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 16, from 9:30–10:30 AM at Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, and burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
Lea's family would like to extend special thanks to Community Nurses for their help and support.
