Lucy A.
Rounseville
November 8, 2024
Rochester-Lucy A. (Cappuccio) Rounseville, 77, of Rochester passed away peacefully and on her own terms surrounded by her family at her home, Friday, November 8, 2024.
Lucy was born in Cambridge, MA, the daughter of the late Luigi and Nancy (Recupero) Cappuccio. Her traditional Italian upbringing was one that contributed to shaping her friendly, affable, hospitable, and caring personality. Lucy put all her amazing qualities into work as a nurse, a job she genuinely loved that afforded her the opportunity to touch so many people's lives in such a positive way. From neonatal nurse to rehabilitation care, from hospital charge nurse to adolescent neurobehavioral care, from direct nursing, to home health care, Lucy gave of her time, skill, nurturing, and passion to helping those in need.
She met her late husband and best friend, Douglas C. Rounseville, in nursing school and together they built a loving home for their children, grandchildren, and all who came to visit. Lucy loved nurturing and watching her children grow and for a time, she and her husband fostered children in need and Lucy would sometimes bring children, from the neurobehavioral school she worked at, to her home for the day, that were neglected or rejected by their family. Lucy opened her heart and home to all.
Lucy enjoyed reading poetry and writing letters, cards, and notes to the people in her life. She would often write words of wisdom and encouragement to someone in need. She suggested to all, not to sweat the small stuff and enjoy what life has to offer. She always had a realistic but positive outlook on life which attracted so many people to wanting to be around her and open up to her. Lucy was so approachable and easy to talk to that some would even joke, she could make a tree talk.
Lucy enjoyed entertaining friends and family, especially during the holidays. She looked forward to hosting her annual Gingerbread House decorating "Competition" where all who participated won best in show. She loved to decorate for Halloween and had a Halloween candy bucket year-round for all to enjoy. Many people would come by so she could lend her ear to them, and they could leave with words of wisdom and some candy in their pocket.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Smallwood and her husband Michael of Rochester, Ruth Jansen and her husband Christian of North Providence, RI, Robert Rounseville and his wife Elizabeth of Rochester, and Rachel Rounseville; six grandchildren, James, Owen, Lilyann, Taylor, Madeline, and Gabriel; and a brother Anthony Cappuccio and his wife Gail of Merrimack NH.
Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford. For memorial register please visit, www.newdayfunerals.com
