NEW BEDFORD - Maria Jose Camara Mello, 76 , passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Mello, Jr.

Maria was born in the Parish of Povoacao, Portugal to the late Luis Moniz and Maria Jose (da Camara) Jacinta.

She worked as a seamstress in various clothing manufacturers. She loved knitting and loved dancing with her husband.

Maria is survived by her son Jeffrey J. Mello of New Bedford;  several grandchildren;  great-grandchildren;  and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 12 noon in the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford.  Visitation will be from 10am-12pm prior to the service.
