NEW BEDFORD- Matilde Perez-Lopez, 83, formerly of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was the wife of the late US Army Sgt. Heriberto Pacheco.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Pedro Perez and Carmen M. Torres, she came to New York City when she was young and was a lifelong resident of the city. Matilde was an overseas telegraph operator for 35 years for Ma Bell until her retirement.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, but most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by her two sons, Lance Lopez and his wife Glory, and Darryl Lopez and his family all of New Bedford;   Her siblings, Gladys Perez, Eneida Zenon, Carmen Burgos, Maria Burgos, Yolanda Burgos, Eduardo, Jimmy, Nelson, Peter and David Gonzalez, Jose, Ray, Albert, William, Chino and Aida Torres;  and grandchildren Lynette, Desiree, Lance Jr, Darryl Jr, Eric, Lena, Ella, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
