NEW BEDFORD- Mercedes Rivera, age 78, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, surrounded by love. She was a devoted mother, a tireless caregiver, and a woman whose life was defined by compassion, strength, and selflessness.

Mercedes was the proud and loving mother of four children, whom she dedicated her life to raising with unwavering care, patience, and devotion. Ensuring her children were safe, supported, and deeply loved was always her greatest priority. Her home was filled with warmth, resilience, and countless cherished memories that will live on forever.

For over 45 years, Mercedes worked as a caregiver, extending the same love and dedication she gave her family to everyone she cared for. Her work was not just a profession but a calling—one rooted in kindness, empathy, and an extraordinary ability to comfort others. She touched many lives through her service and will be remembered for her gentle heart and giving spirit.

In 2017, Mercedes was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. She faced this illness with remarkable courage and strength, fighting bravely for eight years. Despite the challenges, she continued to show grace, faith, and love for those around her.

Mercedes leaves behind her four beloved children, extended family, and many friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her sacrifices, her laughter, her resilience, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.

Though she is no longer with us, Mercedes' legacy of love, care, and strength will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
