NEW BEDFORD - Michael Gonsalves, 70, of New Bedford passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Nelson and Ester (Pina) Gonsalves.

Michael attended the Baptist Church of All Nations in Taunton and the Calvary Pentecostal Church in Freetown. He had worked as a groundskeeper for the City of New Bedford Cemetery Department mostly at Rural Cemetery for many years until his retirement. he also had worked at heat Transfer Products in Freetown.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all the local teams. He also played softball for various area teams as well as youth football for the Barristers and high school football at New Bedford and Taunton High Schools.

He is survived his siblings, Lisa Gonsalves, Nelson Gonsalves, Jr., Kevin Gonsalves and his wife Debbie, Lu Wana Gonsalves Spinner and her husband William Spinner and Barry Gonsalves all of New Bedford and Darrin Gonsalves of Boston; two sons, Richard Smith and Keith Marshal and he was predeceased by his daughter Lisa; also survived by several grandchildren, niece, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 12pm in the Calvary Pentecostal Church, 33 Braley Rd., East Freetown. Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford.
