NEW BEDFORD-Michael A. Sylvia, Sr, 68, of New Bedford passed away Sunday,
November 20, 2022 at Care One at New Bedford. He was the longtime companion of
Catherine Couto.

Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Frank Sylvia and Doris (Francis)
Gomes, he was a lifelong resident of the city and graduate of New Bedford High School.
Michael was a self employed auto mechanic. He loved working on cars and
motorcycles as well as riding his motorcycle. Michael was a member of the Wampanoag
Aquinnah Tribe.

He is survived by his children, Derrick M. Sylvia and Lia M. DeJesus and her husband
Andy all of Fall River; his companion Catherine; his sister, Lindy Lopes of New
Bedford; his former wife Donna (DaCosta) Sylvia; nine grandchildren; a great
grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was the father of the
late Michael A. Sylvia, Jr. brother of the late John F. Sylvia.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 11am-1pm to
conclude with a prayer service in the Donaghy New day Cremation and Funeral Care,
