Olga (Duarte) Mendes, age 77, a resident of New Bedford passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Robert Mendes with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.

She was born in Brava, Cape Verde; daughter of the late Salvador Miranda step father Norman Silva  and Maria Duarte. Olga immigrated to the United Sates when she was 8 years old. She was raised by her older sister Ilda "Maine" Silva. Olga's greatest accomplishment was her family, she cherished the time that she spent with her husband, children, siblings and grandchildren. Olga was a woman with strong faith; her kind heart and generosity left an impression on any who were fortunate to meet her. She also had an adventurous side that led to many great experiences.

In addition to her husband, Olga is survived by her children Robert Wayne Mendes, jr., and his Spouse Christina Desousa, Scott Aaron Mendes and his wife Tracey Mendes and Jessica Lee Mendes; her siblings Ilda "Maine" Silva, Maria Andrade and Albert Duarte; her grandchildren Tyrone, Shaquille, Myles, Laila, Owen, Darbi; her great-grandchildren Ari, Jovan, Unik,  Sariah along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Predeceased in death by her parents and her brother James dePina.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024from 10:00 to  12pm  at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 33 Bradley Rd. East Freetown. Followed by a Funeral Service at 12noon.  Burial in Rural Cemetery, 149 Dartmouth St. New Bedford.
