Patricia Ann (Stanick) Dick, Ph.D. passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026 at the age of 86. She was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Harold J. and Marian(Scudds) Stanick.
Patricia met David F. Dick in 1957 on a blind date. They were inseparable sweethearts, marrying two years later in 1959 and today are 2 ½ weeks shy of 67 married years of a life filled with love and devotion. Together, they resided in West Boylston, MA and moved to Wrentham, MA in 1992. In 2007 after retirement, Patricia and David made their homes on Nantucket, MA and in Center Conway, NH.
Patricia was dedicated to her family and is survived by her husband David and their three children, David Jr. of Worcester, MA, Melissa of Dartmouth, MA, and Jennifer of Flowery Branch, GA. She was a proud and loving grandmother to three grandchildren whom she cherished: Alexandra Elyse of Greensboro Bend, VT, Joshua David of Worcester, MA, and Julianna Fei of Brighton, MA.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Carol S. and Edwin Tuttle of Windsor Locks, CT, and her son-in-law, Donald Renwick Odell III of Flowery Branch, GA. She is survived by her sister Suzanne S. Johnson of Jamaica, VA as well as many loving nieces and nephews who remember her fondly.
Dr. Dick was graduated from Classical High School and attended Salter Secretarial School. As a young woman she worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Milton, Milton, Hinckley and O’Neil in Worcester, MA. When her children were young, she began taking courses at Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State College. She was graduated from Worcester State College, summa cum laude and was elected to Psy Chi, Honor Society in Psychology and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from The Union Institute in Cincinnati, OH. As a specialist in the psychology of chronic medical illness, Dr. Dick focused her doctoral research on the subjective meanings and experiences of chronic medical illness. Her 1983 published thesis, The Other Side of Illness: A View From Inside the Chronic Illness Experience, can be found in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Dick taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Quinsigamond Community College and Anna Maria College; she conducted Psychiatry Grand Rounds at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, as well as Quincy, Brockton, and Good Samaritan Hospitals in MA. She was the Florence Marie Hall Visiting Professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
Dr. Dick, along with Dr. Alan Gruber, was co-owner of Neurobehavioral Associates, Inc.as well as a wound care company with offices in Bangor, ME and Hingham, MA. During the last fifteen years of her career, she attended to the psychological treatment of patients in many long-term care and skilled nursing facilities as well as in many hospitals. In private practice, Dr. Dick dedicated her professional career to serving individuals and families experiencing medical diagnoses and disabilities.
Along with her husband, Patricia enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains of NH, cross country skiing on Conway Lake in the winter, and sailing aboard Buzz and Sal’s sailboat, the Honor Bright in Buzzards Bay. During retirement Dr. Dick volunteered in the Henney History Room at the Conway Public Library, Conway, NH, the Nantucket Police Department, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Laundry Love, Nantucket, MA.
Dr. Dick will be remembered for her endless generosity to others, her love of, and devotion to, family and friends, and her dedication to conserving the environment.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Dr. Dick’s memory be made to Doctor’s Without Borders or All Saints Episcopal Church Worcester, MA. There are no calling hours. The family will hold a Service in Celebration of Life and Remembrance at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester, MA on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
