ACUSHNET - Richard Simmons, 94, passed away on June 30, 2025. He was the loving husband of Jeanne T. (Hebert) Simmons for 69 years.

Richard was born in New Bedford and was the son of the late Joseph Simmons and Mary (Travers) Simmons.

He served his country honorably in the US Air Force and went on to hold a long and rewarding career at Hoyt Manufacturing retiring as a supervisor.  In his free time, he enjoyed walks around the neighborhood, family vacations and camping trips. Most of all, Richard was a dedicated provider for his family and he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Kenneth Simmons and his wife Lynn of New Bedford, Steven Simmons of Boston and Michael Simmons of New Bedford; sibling, Natalie Kent of New Bedford; grandchildren, Eric Simmons, Brittany Simmons, Allison Barboza and her husband Mel; great grandchildren,Trey and Sage; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Francelina Moniz, Mary Leite, Incensia Simmons, Joseph Simmons, Jr., Robert Simmons and Lydia Duarte.

Private arrangements were entrusted to the Donaghy-New Day Funeral Home, New Bedford.

Donations in memory of Mr. Simmons may be made to St Judes Children's Research Hospital.
