DARTMOUTH-Roland Savaria, husband of Noella Savaria and father of the late Daniel J. Savaria, passed away on December 31, 2024 in the 93rd year of his life. Roland was a devoted husband and beloved father and was involved in various community programs. He was born in New Bedford on January 11, 1931 the son of Rosario and Dorilla (Page) Savaria.
Roland was a prominent figure in local Real Estate. He co-owned Savaria Real Estate with his brother Maurice. He was President of the New Bedford Board of Realtors in 1973 and 1983 and named Realtor of the Year in 1983. Roland received the honor of Realtor Emeritus from the National Board of Realtors in recognition of 45 years of service and for his contributions to the real estate profession.
Roland's other professional achievements include Director of the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce, and the Chairman of the Massachusetts Multiple Listing Service. He was a certified Massachusetts Court Appraiser working for the Superior Courts of New Bedford, Taunton and Brockton and also appraised properties for local banks, attorneys and mortgage companies. He worked diligently into his 90's.
Roland was a kind, generous and loving father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was always ready to cook the Thanksgiving turkey, assemble the French meat pies for Christmas Eve and prepare the steamers and "fixings" for the annual family clam boil. Using his woodworking skills, he constructed the family home in Westport, made lawn gliders for his children on the purchase of their first home, made his grandchildren personalized toy chests, rocking horses and a doll cradle for his granddaughter.
Roland is survived by his wife of 75 years Noella Charest, daughters Rolande and her husband Raymond Rodrigues, Rochelle and her husband David Pelletier, his sons Ronald and his wife Anne-Marie, David and his partner Andrea Greenwood, his grandchildren Dr. Michelle Miranda, Ryan and Kyle Pelletier, Daniel and Dr. Michael Savaria, Heather and Jennifer Savaria and 6 great-grandchildren: Drew, Gavin, Ada, Juliana, Emilia and Cooper. He is predeceased by his young son Daniel and his brothers Roger and Maurice and his sister Simone Dalton.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10AM at St. Julie Billiard Church 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
