Shirley J. (Braley) Turpel, age 96, formerly of Acushnet MA, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Care One of New Bedford. &She was a loving wife of 69 years to John W. Turpel, who proceeded her in death in 2017

She was born in New Bedford in 1925 and was the daughter of the late Alton F. Braley Sr., and Hannah "Hazel" J. (McGregor ) Braley.

Upon graduation from New Bedford High School sheattended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy MA. Later she worked twenty four years at the Shawmut Bank in New Bedford.

Christian music was very important to Shirley and she enjoyed playing the organ or the piano at the Church of the Nazarene most of her life. She was truly dedicated to God and her family.

Surviving relatives are son, Stephen D. Turpel and his wife Gail of Acushnet , a daughter Rhonda J. Hunsinger and her husband Gary of Melbourne Fl, five grandchildren, Mark J. And Nathan J. Turpel, Laura L. Cusolito, Allison Baxter and Jessica Madigan and seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was the mother of the late Mark A. and Paul W. Turpel. Also preceding her in death was her brother Alton F. Braley, Jr., and sister Carol M. Sherman.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
