Stephen F. Bassett, age 75, of Onset Massachusetts, born and raised in Middleboro, affectionately known as "Grandpoozle", passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.

Devoted husband to Edie (Greene) Bassett for 37 years, cherished son of the late Willam "Bud" Bassett and Betty (Wright) Days, step-son of Herbert "Sandy" Days, loving brother of Linda (Bassett) DeArruda and her husband John of Raynham, Julianne (Bassett) Stickle and her husband Michael of Indiana, Tina Bassett of Indiana, and nephew of Nancy Whynot of Virginia. Proud father of Peter Bassett and his wife Melissa of Middleboro, Allison (Greene) Miskiv and her husband Mike of Mashpee, Jaimee Greene and Joseph Castelo of New Bedford, Syretta Bassett of Florida, Cale Bassett of Pittsfield, Kara (Bassett) Ransom and her husband Michael of New Bedford, Billee (Bassett) Wright and her husband Kenneth of New Bedford, Nick Bassett and his wife Katelyn of Wareham, Moriah Bassett and her partner Tori of Plymouth, and 28 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Steve was a long-time Patriots and Bruins fan who you would frequently find lounging on the couch content munching a box of cookies with big glass of milk or with some scratch tickets chasing his million-dollar dream. He had a tremendous work ethic, without complaint, rarely missing a day. He was the classic grumpy old man although with a heart far bigger than he would ever admit, easily driven nuts by kids running through the house, yet secretly delighted by the chaos he pretended to be annoyed by. He leaves us with stories to laugh about, lessons to live by, and a love that will echo long after the grumbling has gone quiet. We will miss his stubbornness, the sight of him relaxing in his favorite spot, and the comfort of knowing he was always there. We promise to keep the noise down and stay "in or out".

Rest easy old man.

A memorial service will be held on November 24th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St, New Bedford. A gathering will follow at the Middleboro Elks from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. The family asks that you honor him by spending time with those you love or sharing a story that keeps his memory alive.
