Obituary

NEW BEDFORD Terry Johnson, 69, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was a truly faithful man of God who brought an abundance of light, warmth, and joy into this world. To know Terry was to have been touched by a ray of sunshine. He was completely devoted to his church and to every person he met. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing him knew him as the sweetest, gentlest, and most selfless soul around. Terry loved everyone and put a smile on the face of everyone he met.

He absolutely loved being a part of New Life South Coast Church, where he enjoyed serving his community as both an usher and a vital member of the medical team. He had a servant’s heart and was always the very first person to step forward, ready to help anyone who needed a hand. His beautiful, unconditional love, deep faith, and endless generosity will live on forever in our hearts.

Terry has been reunited in peace with his mother, Loretta Daisy Johnson, and his brother, Robert Johnson. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving sister, Renee Johnson.

He leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his children: Terrence “T.J.” Johnson, Tyric Johnson, Terrick Johnson, Kimberly Hall, Tova Hall, Anthony Hall, Corey Pottle, and Josh Pottle; and his grandchildren: Star Johnson, Naryah Johnson, Asaki Grant O’Garra, Terrence Johnson Jr., and Tamia Johnson. He is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Terry was incredibly happy to have found a love that was so effortless with his soulmate, Betzy, who brought immense peace, love, joy, and care into his life. He also deeply cherished Betzy’s two children, Rogee and Maia. Their love inspired many and will forever be remembered as a beautiful testimony of companionship, devotion, and God’s perfect timing.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Terry is now fully alive, completely healed, and forever free—rejoicing with the Savior he loved and faithfully served. This is not goodbye, but only a temporary separation. Terry, your love will remain in our hearts until we meet again...in the presence of the Lord.

The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, August 8th, 2026 from 11AM-1PM at New Life South Coast, 1331 Cove Rd., New Bedford with his service at 1PM. A reception will follow. Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County Street, New Bedford. For memorial register please visit, www.newdayfunerals.com
