One of the best things about surviving a massive heart attack and bypass surgery at the age of 43 is that you have lots of time to write your own obituary. The only thing about Fred S. Pell, who passed away at age 72 on December 29th 2022 after a period of declining health, is that he didn’t care much for obituaries or talking about himself. Being with family and friends and talking up his grandchildren was a different story. Everyone who met Fred loved him. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Elizabeth (deMelo) Pell.
Born and raised in Brockton, son of the late Arthur J. and Joanne C. (Markus) Pell, he lived his adult life in and around New Beford until finally settling with his family in Acushnet in 1989. Fred went to North Providence High School and received his Associates degree from Johnson and Wales University. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era and worked with his father in paint and wallpaper sales. He spent the end of his career working as the office manager for Debross Hathaway Marvel until he “retired” and worked with his son Joshua’s plumbing and heating business. Fred love to read, play golf with his family and friends, and never missed an opportunity to get to the beach or out on the water.
He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, his children; Joshua Pell and his wife Jamie of Mattapoisett, Jonathan Pell and wife Amy of Denver, CO and Jennifer Murphy and husband Darryl of Marion; six grandchildren, Padraig and Cole Murphy, and Ben, Eli, Jocelyn, and Nathan Pell; two brothers Larry Pell and his wife Kathy, Robert Pell and wife Marcia; a sister Susan Pell and several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a memorial visitation at their home, 14 Bow Dr., Acushnet MA 02743, Sunday, January 1st from 1-5pm and January 2nd from 3-6pm. Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day Cremation and Funeral care, 465 County St. New Bedford. For memorial register please visit, www.newdayfunerals.com.
