Obituary

FAIRHAVEN-George R. Thatcher, Jr., 59, of Fairhaven passed away unexpectedly
Sunday, January 22, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband
of Cindy L. (Boardman) Thatcher.

Born in New Bedford, son of George R. Thatcher, Sr. Of Fairhaven and the late Cecelia
E. “Cenie” (Sylvaria) Thatcher, he lived most of his life in Fairhaven. George was a
commercial fishing boat Captain, a welder and diesel mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; father, George; a son, Jay Augustine of MD;
daughter, Jaimie-Lee DeTerra of Fall River; 14 grandchildren; two great
granddaughters; three brothers, Bruce A. Thatcher and his wife Jennifer, Thomas I.
Thatcher and his wife Marcie and Sean P. Thatcher and his wife Jennifer; a sister,
Elaine M. Robichaud and her husband Scott and many nieces and nephews. George
was the father of the late George “Robby” Thatcher, III.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 2pm in the Seaman’s Bethel
on Johnny Cake Hill in New Bedford. Arrangements are by the Donaghy New Day
Cremation and Funeral Care, 465 County St., New Bedford. For memorial register
