ACUSHNET-Joseph Costa, 91, longtime resident of Acushnet, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, from complications caused by COVID-19, surrounded by his loving family. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Joe was born in New Bedford and lived in southeastern Massachusetts for most of his life. He was the husband of Barbara Pacheco with whom he spent 25 years in their home in Acushnet. He is predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, the late Mary (Adesso) Costa, the mother of his three children.
Joe is survived by his wife Barbara and his three children: sons Lenny Costa and his wife Joni of Safety Harbor, FL and Paul Costa and his wife Joanne of Rochester, and daughter Christina Andrews and her husband Ron of North Port, FL, as well as 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Joe’s biggest joy was spending time with his family, going out dancing, sharing meals, telling stories, and entertaining with corny jokes. He was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams, and could often be seen in his Red Sox baseball cap. In his younger years, he was a renowned shoe salesman in and around New Bedford.
Joe was the son of the late Julio and Maria (Lopes) Costa, both born in Gouveia, Portugal. He is predeceased by his parents as well as all of his siblings: Gus Costa, Angelo Costa, Aurora Medeiros, Natalie Cypriano, and Julio Costa Jr.
